Organic FlourStone-ground wholemeal flour from grain grown and milled on the farm. |
Wheat flour - we use an old variety, Maris Widgeon, which is a strong wheat suitable for breadmaking in the old fashioned English way to make a firm, nutty loaf but without the dramatic rise that is usual for bread these days which is only possible by using wheat imported from Canada, America and Russia.
Rye flour - we also grow rye, which has an excellent flavour but can be challenging to use! Try it not just for bread but also for cakes and pastry. Rye is particularly useful for many people who have an intolerance to wheat because it contains almost no gluten.
If you want ideas for baking see the recipes page or contact us. We have customers who have great sucess using both the wheat and the rye flour in their breadmaking machines, either alone or mixed with other flours.
Flour is avalible by collection from us at the farm, from Modbury Farm Shop, or from Washingpools Farm Shop.

HoneyHoney from bees kept in the market garden as pollinators. A luxurious by-product. |
Honey is sometimes available for sale.
Our honey may not be officially described as an organic prduct. In this country there is no certified honey because bees can range as much as 3 miles from their hives. Our hives are on the farm but within the village and without doubt they will forage on neighbour's gardens as well as ours. We have used synthetic treatments for varroa but by careful monotoring of the infestation keep their use to a minimum
Organic Thatching ReedWheat reed from 'Maris widgeon' organically grown by the sea. Very strong. |
Small quantities of wheat or rye for home milling or sprouting are available. Bulk cereals are sold through the winter, please contact us if you are interested. We currently sell cleaned milling wheat regularly to two local water mills. (The Town Mill, Lyme Regis and Otterton Mill, Devon). We welcome enquires from other mills, whether you are interested in a couple of bags or a few tonnes.
We currently have available whole fleeces (white or coloured) suitable for home spinning or felt making @ £5 each. We also have a very few Shetland fleeces, with their extra fine wool and long staple.
We hope to be able to offer spun knitting wool, knitted clothing and woven rugs. If you are interested in any of these then it may be possible to supply now or in the near future.
There is now a formal standard for organic wool. The wool from organic sheep will not automatically be of a standard to be considered organic because some treatments which are allowed for meat, with an appropriate withdrawal period before slaughter, contaminate the fleece. We are pleased to say that our wool does satisfy the standards and can be sold as organic.
A new product which we have been planning for some time is now available: Tamarisk Farm cured lamb skins. Because the processing of the skins is not certified we cannot call these organic but as the wool would be certified we think these are still preferable to conventional skins, especially for use with babies.
Sheepskins are very soft and come in a variety of sizes and colours, mostly from the Dorset Downs but also from Shetlands and Hebrideans. Prices are usually between £50 and £65. What we have in stock varies from time to time so please phone to check.
We sell a full range of beef, lamb, mutton and hogget directly from our farm shop. The shop is open on Tuesday afternoons, between 4:00 and 6:30, and on Friday mornings, between 8:30 and 11:00. We are also happy to open at any other arranged time. Click here for a full list of the cuts we aim to have in stock with prices. The abbatoir we use is quite close and so stressful travelling and waiting times for the animals are kept to a minimum.
We have no wheat reed for sale at present.
