Conservation

Conservation is a major interest on the farm. We have a large proportion of permenant pasture and much of that is species rich. The steep slopes at the top of the farm have a cover of scub which varies from scant bramble to dense hawthorn and blackthorn. The coastal Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) runs along the beach and includes two large areas of the farm, with a combination of Reedbed (Phagmites communis) and wet meadow, and another slightly further up the slope which is a mosaic of scrub and calcarious grassland. Much more of the farm is designated as Site of Nature Conservstion Interest (SNCI) by the Dorset Wildlife Trust and there is more of conservation interest. The arable land, being organic carries a pleasant variety of the smaller arable weeds.

We intend to produce an account of the conservation interest of the whole farm but until that is ready, we include here various documents which we have written for other purposes.
